The sudden and unexpected death of an infant is one of the most devastating tragedies that could happen to any family.  This training looks at the risk factors for Sudden Unexpected Death in Infancy, the local picture in Barking & Dagenham and Havering, and aims to provide basic advice on reducing the risk of SUDI.

 

  • The definitions of SUDI, SIDS and SUDC and how they differ
  • Explain what ‘safer sleep’ is and help you identify risk factors
  • Advice to give to parents and carers on how to avoid SIDS
  • How to regulate babies’ temperature
  • The dangers of co-sleeping and bed-sharing

 

Anyone who may come into contact with families and might have an opportunity to give safer sleep information, however brief their contact is, and irrespective of their role e.g. fire fighters, paramedics, police officers, housing officers, and health and education staff
