Learning aims:
- To develop the awareness and understanding of the mental health needs of refugee and asylum-seeking children and families, among those working directly with these communities in Havering.
- To strengthen the confidence and capacity of professionals working with these communities to respond in trauma-informed and culturally sensitive ways.
- To foster multiagency collaboration around psychologically informed support for displaced families.
Objectives:
- Attendees will gain an increased awareness of
- the practical implications of being an asylum seeker or refugee, and what this might mean for mental health needs.
- What key mental health issues to one be aware of in these communities, and how this might present.
- Introductory understanding of trauma and PTSD
- How to identify mental health needs this these communities, and what action is then required
Who should attend this training?
Anyone working with children and families in Havering who would like to develop their skills, knowledge, and confidence in supporting the mental health needs of refugees and asylum-seeking children and families in Havering. This can include social workers, trainees, family support workers, youth workers, EAL staff, and teachers, pastoral staff in schools.
